Yesterday my sister had marching practice and I went over to pick her up early so I could watch a little, and to say the least I wasn't impressed. I took some notes on my cell phone so I wouldn't forget what I want to remember.
-They're playing jazz and it sounds like no one's ever heard jazz
-The bones can't hold their horns up
-Everyone looked like they were freshmen, making freshmen mistakes
-No one uses commands, they just yell
-Instead of using a command to start time, the snare gives a tap command
-I didn't once hear the trombones. This was so weird to me because they were the loudest section in Clarkston, what made it weirder is that the baritones were out-playing them by far so it's basically swapped.
-The baritones did impress me quite a bit
-The guard sucked, just sucked. In Clarkston the guard was actually kinda good
-They marched with barisaxes!!
-There was a pretty cool drum break where everyone put their horns down and marched around the drum line.
-The trombones never seemed to be facing front, let me tell you, if James or I had this section we would fix this immediately.
-Their director was pretty funny, but that made it hard to listen to him when he tried to yell at the band
-The trumpets didn't seem to know the meaning of in time
-It took me a long time to notice this, but after runs NO ONE talked, but then again not a single section stayed set either
-The symbol player in the pit seemed to just be tapping off randomly
A bit off-topic:
-The gym looks like a spacecraft
-Their mascot is the Badger... all I could think of when I went with her to audition before school when I found this out was "Badger, Badger, Badger, Badger, Mushroom, Mushroom..." He's even wearing a sweater, it looked so weird!
So it's safe to say I miss marching band...
And one more thing: Afterwards when I caught up with Sarah she was with "a boy she liked" which of course never means like like in that sort of way. All in all if she did like like him, I would give my seal of aproval on him.. and on to another list...
-He plays trombone
-He plays jazz
-He showed respect for me
-He was quite funny
-Very nice
-When I was making fun of my sister he stood up for her, or at least made me stop in a polite way
I was impressed on her pick. :-)

It sucks. Everyone was all "positive-attitude-y" at camp and we were doing really good and all really happy. We get home and all the adults are like "YOU SUCK!" *bites off several children heads*. Our first two home practices have been super depressing.
On the other hand, we also have a sweet drum break. :)
Yay for ur sis!
